Softball

I joined a women’s softball league. Mostly foreigners play in this league, and my team is compiled of mostly Canadians and a couple of Americans. We have games on either Tuesday nights or Friday afternoons. The last time I played softball was in 7th and 8th grade. One of my friends from work plays on this team and I figured it would be a nice way to meet people and get some exercise. We play on this nice field really close to my apartment.

I was more nervous about my first practice than I was moving to Egypt. I really hate not being good at a sport, unless it is for pure fun…but this is with women I don’t know, where we actually have games, and the will be meeting me for the first time. (I like how everything in my life is new and uncomfortable, could I at least not be playing a sport that makes me feel the same way?) The first two practices went just fine. When batting I touched the ball about 80% of the time, I can throw far, but catching a fly ball…. I can’t tell how far behind or in front of me ball is!!! Ill be feet away from catching it! At the second practice, I did better than the first, so hopefully this pattern will continue. My coach said I had “good hand-eye coordination”…when I told my friend this the next day we were laughing, cause over the age of 6 who doesn’t have good hand-eye coordination??? Just the only thing he could find positive??? I have two games this Friday so hopefully at the least I get a few good stories out of it!
